Academy Update: Wrapping up fall campaign

Earthquakes Academy teams wrapped up a busy and successful fall campaign last weekend.


The Under-16 team battled Crossfire Premier to a 0-0 draw on Saturday at Cal State East Bay’s Pioneer Stadium, and then fell 2-1 to the Vancouver Whitecaps at the Earthquakes Training Facility on Sunday. The Quakes U16s (6-3-3) are in second place behind Vancouver (8-1-2) in the Northwest Division of the West Conference.


The U18s walloped Crossfire Premier 4-0 on Saturday, and then lost 4-0 to the powerful Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday. Zach Penner, Jorge Lara, Philip Hausen and Amir Bashti scored against Crossfire Premier. Like the U16s, the U18s (9-2-1) are in second place behind Vancouver (11-0-0) in the Northwest Division.


After finishing the first half of the season unbeaten, the U14s opened the Development Academy Showcase with a 1-1 draw against FC Golden State at the StubHub Center. Mario Rocha scored the tying goal in the 46th minute.


The U14s then fell to Chivas USA 3-1, and wrapped up the trip with a 4-0 loss to LA Galaxy.


Overall, Oscar Govea and Adonis Diaz lead the U14s with nine goals apiece, and Jason Yanez has eight goals.


Penner and Bashti lead the U18s with six goals each, and Hausen has four goals.


Ivan Valencia tops the U16s with five goals, and Kaya Fabbretti has four goals.


The U14s will return to action after their winter break against Merced Atlas Soccer Academy on Feb. 7. The U18s will next face FC Golden State on Jan. 17 at Claremont High School, in a doubleheader with the Quakes U16s.
