Earthquakes to Open 2016 Regular Season Against Colorado Rapids at Avaya Stadium

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club will open its 2016 regular season campaign against the Colorado Rapids at Avaya Stadium on Sunday, March 6. The Western Conference showdown, presented by Avaya, will be televised locally on Comcast SportsNet California and kicks off at 12 p.m. PT.


The Earthquakes finished the 2015 season with a 13-13-8 record, including a 7-3-5 record at Avaya Stadium. The Quakes sold out all 15 regular season matches at the club’s new venue during its inaugural season and more than doubled its win total from 2014, closing out the year with a 6-3-3 record over the final 12 contests. 


San Jose and Colorado have battled in the regular season 59 times, with the Quakes holding a 27-18-14 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams met twice last season, with the clubs dueling to a 1-1 draw at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on May 8 and the Quakes prevailing 1-0 at Avaya Stadium on August 14. San Jose has dominated the series of late, holding an undefeated 6-0-5 record over the Rapids since the start of the 2012 season.


All 20 Major League Soccer clubs are slated to open their season on March 6, with locally televised matches beginning at 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., followed by nationally televised contests at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. (all times PT).
