SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes moved closer to the end of the 2016 preseason with a 4-0 victory against San Francisco City FC at the Earthquakes Training Facility on Wednesday morning. Forward Mark Sherrod tallied two goals in his first full game of the preseason, while Tommy Thompson and Adam Jahn also added second-half scores. It also marked the debut of Quakes midfielder Alberto Quintero, who San Jose acquired on loan for the 2016 season earlier in the day.

Sherrod opened the Earthquakes’ scoring in the 21st minute, drilling Matias Perez Garcia’s pass through the keeper’s legs.

Taking advantage of defender Kip Colvey’s deflected shot in the 59th minute, Sherrod drove home the rebound for his second goal of the game to widen the Earthquakes lead to 2-0.

After entering the game at halftime as a sub for Chris Wondolowski, Thompson chased Adam Jahn’s blocked shot and blasted into it the corner of the net for a 3-0 advantage in the 74th minute.

Five minutes later, Jahn took a pass from second-half sub Quincy Amarikwa and darted on a long run through the defense, before burying his shot into the bottom-right corner of the net.

Strong 90-minute performances by defenders Andres Imperiale, JJ Koval, Colvey and goalkeeper Bryan Meredith helped keep the clean sheet for San Jose.

San Jose closes out their preseason against the New York Cosmos at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, February 27 at 7 p.m. PT. Tickets for the match can be purchased here.
