California Clasico to be first MLS match to air on Univision since 1999 as part of Heineken Rivalry Edición Especial

On the heels of an exciting Heineken Rivalry Week

Major League Soccer today announced the addition of Heineken Rivalry EdiciĆ³n Especial, featuring the California ClĆ”sico match between the San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy on Saturday, June 25 at Stanford Stadium, 7 p.m. PT.  The match will now air live on Univision Network and UDN (Univision Deportes Network), the No. 1 Spanish-Language sports network, marking the first time an MLS match has aired on the Univision network since 1999.


The San Jose vs. Galaxy MLS match will serve as the second game of a soccer double-header that kicks off at 5 p.m. PT with the third-place game of Copa America Centenario ā€“ the biggest menā€™s soccer tournament to be held in the U.S. since the 1994 World Cup.
For the fifth consecutive year, more than 50,000 fans are expected to come out for the rivalry game at Stanford Stadium to watch one of MLSā€™ most storied rivalries between two of the winningest teams in League history with seven MLS Cup championships won between the two clubs. More than 47,000 tickets have already been sold for Saturdayā€™s match.
The special edition of Heineken Rivalry Week will see the third and final meeting of the two clubs in 2016 regular season play. Chris Wondolowski, Anibal Godoy, Giovani dos Santos and Steven Gerrard and are just a few of the current stars that join the historic rank of world-class players that have participated in this rivalry including: Landon Donovan, David Beckham, Alexi Lalas, and Eric Wynalda.
