INTERNATIONAL PREVIEW: Cordell Cato, Trinidad & Tobago host Costa Rica in World Cup Qualifier

Earthquakes midfielder Cordell Cato and Trinidad and Tobago open Round Five of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualification at home against Costa Rica Friday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. PT. 


Cato, 24, has made 19 prior appearances for T&T, scoring three goals. The San Jose winger most recently starred for T&T in last month’s Caribbean Cup Qualifiers, scoring a goal in a 4-0 win against Dominican Republic on Oct. 6 and playing 120 minutes in a 2-0 loss to Martinique on Oct. 12.


Hadley Crawford Stadium, the site of Friday’s highly anticipated match-up, is just a few miles down the road from where Cato grew up in Carnage.



The Soca Warriors finished second place (3-1-2, 11 pts) in Group C behind the United States (4-1-1, 13pts) after battling to a 2-2 draw against Guatemala at Hasely Crawford Stadium on Sept. 2 and falling 4-0 to the U.S. at EverBank Field on Sept. 6.


Costa Rica finished atop of Group B (5-0-1, 16pts) and are currently undefeated in their last four World Cup Qualifiers. Los Ticos most recently defeated Russia 4-3 in a friendly on Oct. 9.


Following Friday’s fixture, Trinidad & Tobago will travel to Honduras to face Los Catrachos on Nov. 15.
