Ian Russell Named Head Coach of Reno 1868 FC
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that Ian Russell has been named the head coach of Reno 1868 FC ahead of the team’s inaugural season in 2017. The Earthquakes and Reno agreed to a multi-year United Soccer League affiliate partnership in June. The Quakes will immediately look to fill Russell’s vacancy on the coaching staff. Read more.
Paul Holocher to Take Over as Director of Player Development for the Earthquakes Youth Club
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that Paul Holocher, current Earthquakes Development Academy U-18 and U-16 head coach, will take over as director of player development for the Earthquakes Youth Club while continuing his coaching responsibilities with the Quakes academy teams. Academy staff members Mario Fernandez and Eder Quintanilla will assist Holocher in running the program. Ian Russell is stepping down as the technical director of the youth club. Read more.
Snow to Fall in San Jose on Dec. 10 at Avaya Stadium
The holidays will hit San Jose in full force on Saturday, Dec.10 as the San Jose Earthquakes will host the first-ever Winterfest at Avaya Stadium. The holiday-themed festival will run from noon through 5 p.m. and will feature more than 10 tons of snow and holiday-related activities ahead of a viewing party for MLS Cup 2016. General admission to Winterfest is free, although new and gently used toys or canned goods are a suggested donation upon entry as the Quakes are hosting a toy drive ahead of and during Winterfest.

United Airlines Fantasy Flight
Who: Earthquakes mascot ‘Q’
What: A journey to the North Pole. A special flight will operate for 60 children from local hospitals and their family members to fly and land at the “north pole”

NCAA WOMEN’S COLLEGE CUP


The semifinals for the NCAA Women’s College Cup at Avaya Stadium have been set. On Friday, Dec. 2, No. 2 West Virginia takes on No. 5 North Carolina at 2 p.m. PT, followed by No. 6 Southern California and No. 7 Georgetown at 4:30 p.m. The two winners will then face off in the final on Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are still available for all matches by clicking here.

THIS WEEK IN EARTHQUAKES HISTORY


A look back on important moments in Earthquakes history that took place during the week of Nov. 28 – Dec. 2
Nov. 29, 2007 – Earthquakes Name Ian Russell Assistant Coach
The Quakes named Ian Russell assistant coach, joining Frank Yallop’s staff. Russell would remain with the team in the same capacity until Nov. 22, 2016, when he agreed to become the first head coach in the history of Reno 1868 FC, the Earthquakes’ USL affiliate.
