Q&A: Catching up with Mo Thiaw after Saturday's victory over San Antonio FC

sjearthquakes.com: You had an assist and scored the deciding goal during Saturday’s match. What was your mentality going into the game?

Mo Thiaw: “Going into the game, it was my first start of the season, so I just wanted to impress the coaches and show myself that I deserve to be starting, and you know just try to get a win and help the team.”



SJEQ: Reno recently broke the club record for your eight match unbeaten streak, what do you think made your team successful?


MT: “We’ve been successful on just trying to allow less goals in the games and defending better, I think that’s been the key of our success.”



SJEQ: How does it feel to have earned a spot on USL’s team of the week?


MT: “It’s an honor, but you know I’ve got to thank my teammates for putting in the work, it was a collective effort.”



SJEQ: How has it been having Paul Marie, Kevin Partida, and JT Marcinkowski with you in Reno? What’s it been like growing together and having success together?


MT: “It’s been great, those guys are great guys, we hang out a lot when they come here. You know the chemistry is developing a lot and that’s been a big help.”



SJEQ: In May you had a total of two goals and two assists, what are you focusing on to make June as successful?


MT: “Just trying to have better training sessions everyday, doing the extra work after practice, and just focusing on doing better work on the field.”



SJEQ: What has your experience been being a part of both the Quakes family and Reno’s family?


MT: “It’s been great, coming down here and Reno helping me level up my game as a rookie. The coaches have been great on just trying to help us win our games and getting us ready for the bigger league, and it’s great.”
