The San Jose Earthquakes earned a hard-fought 2-2 draw on the road against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
After conceding in the 19th minute, the Earthquakes equalized moments before the halftime whistle when forward Danny Hoesen chipped keeper Brian Rowe. It marked Hoesen’s team-leading fifth goal of season, tying his 2017 total just 10 games into 2018. It also marked his third goal in the last four games.
Homegrown defender Nick Lima gave San Jose their second goal eight minutes into the second half. After a darting run by Vako, the ball was sprayed wide to Lima, who opted to cut back onto his left foot. Lima’s curling strike swung just inside the far post. It marked his first goal of the season and Vako’s third assist.
