Mark Christie was the captain for Jewel and Esk Valley College soccer team from 2000 to 2002. Mark then signed semi - professional contracts with several lower league clubs in the North of Scotland. He then went on to represent the University of Aberdeen first team as a striker. Mark continued to play centre midfield, full back and winger for lower league clubs as he began his coaching career at the young age of 21. He received several offers to play college soccer in USA and was very close to signing for Scottish Division 3 club Berwick Rangers in 2011. A double leg break that year brought an end to Mark's playing dreams and he started to focus solely on becoming a coach.
Mark's coaching career started while studying sports science and sports psychology at the University of Aberdeen. He became a community coach in 2004 for Aberdeen Football club and started to learn his trade under Neil Simpson and Jim Crawford. Later that year, Mark began his first US coaching stint working for Major League Soccer Camps. Mark was fortunate enough to do some camps for New England Revolution and this set in motion a dream to coach in the US full-time.
While studying at the University of Aberdeen. Mark transformed the University Women's program into a Nationally recognized program. Winning promotion to National top flight, competing in the British Championships and winning a national cup. AUWFC also became the first University in Scotland to have a second team.
His success in the College game was noticed by a top flight National women's team and he began building the foundation and structure for Aberdeen FC Ladies to compete at the highest level of women's football. This journey would take him to Cyprus on a coach education / Match analysis trip with the Scottish Women's National Team.
While studying at College, Mark also embarked on a quest for knowledge that would take him all over the World. Mark holds the UEFA B, USSF B, SFA Youth Award, NSCAA Premier Diploma and is in the process of completing his UEFA A.
Mark had some small stints in Men's football as a player coach. His first full time coaching job would take him back to USA and a role with Red Star Soccer Academy in Mountain View. Success there, would lead Mark to new club Barcelona Bay Area where he would progress to Director of Coaching. This is where Mark would make history again and become the first coach have two of his own teams play each other in the fInal of Norcal Regional top 8.. He would make another record at BBA when his first and second team would play each other in a top bracket State Cup Final.
Mark is our current u12 coach for San Jose Earthquakes. This group covers the 2006, 2007, 2008 born players. Mark combines his coaching role at Quakes with his Director role at youth club Bay Area Barcelona and his own coaching company Euro Soccer Training.
