The Quakes cruised to a 4-1 scrimmage win over neighboring Santa Clara University Tuesday night at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Tallying for San Jose were Joey Gjertsen, Ramiro Corrales, Ryan Johnson and Arturo Alvarez. San Jose head coach Frank Yallop scheduled the scrimmage to keep the team fresh after a bye week following the Quakes season opener against Real Salt Lake on March 27.

Gjertsen started the scoring with a left-footed blast from near the top of the box, curling the ball into the far corner in the 13th minute. The next goal was pure beauty as Corrales teed up a shot from 35 yards away, a dart that nicked the crossbar and bounced in at the 31-minute mark.

Corrales' tally opened a flurry of offense for the Quakes. Johnson followed up with a game effort, beating his man to a through ball from Andre Luiz and chipping over an onrushing keeper in the 36th minute. Alvarez capped the Quakes scoring with a left-footed boot inside the area in the 38th minute.

The Broncos pulled one back in the 82nd minute off a corner kick after several ricochets in a crowd near the net.

The Quakes will resume the MLS regular season with a match against the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park on Saturday, April 10. The match kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT and is available live on MLS Direct Kick. Fans can also watch a tape-delay on CSNCA at 10 p.m. PT.
