Academy Update: Split at Winter Showcase

Youth Academy Tryout #2

The San Jose Earthquakes U-18s were 1-1-0 while the U-16s were 0-1-1 in the opening weekend of the Developmental Academy Winter Showcase in Phoenix, Ariz.

The U-18s opened with a decisive 5-1 win against Texas Rush AJ Auxerre on Saturday. Alfred Edmonds, Sam Engs and Travis Pillon each scored once while Israel Ayala Lopez notched a brace.

Engs' goal put the Quakes ahead 1-0 in the 12th minute, but an Auxerre equalizer in the 15th minute temporarily settled the score. San Jose responded with back-to-back goals by Lopez in the 43rd and 44th minutes and tacked on two more in the second half.

On Sunday, FC Dallas tallied in the 5th and 23rd minutes to put San Jose on its heels. The Quakes had several opportunities, but couldn't find the net.
