San Jose Visits New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena
The San Jose Earthquakes will hit the road for their second away match of the season on Saturday, April 16, as they head to Red Bull Arena in New Jersey to take on the New York Red Bulls at 4:30 p.m. PT. The match will be broadcast live the MLS Direct Kick Package and will air on the radio on KDOW 1220 (English) and KZSF 1370 (Spanish).

The San Jose Earthquakes tied their second straight home match, earning a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC at Buck Shaw Stadium. Alan Gordon struck first for Toronto in the 27th minute, but Simon Dawkins scored for the second game in a row to even the match 11 minutes later. Despite a number of chances in the second half, the Quakes could not put another past TFC goalkeeper Stefan Frei and had to settle for a draw.

Last Game vs. New York Red Bulls
Earthquakes 3, Red Bulls 1; Nov. 4, 2010; Red Bull Arena; Harrison, N.J.
The San Jose Earthquakes defeated the top-seeded New York Red Bulls 3-1 in the return leg quarterfinal match, advancing 3-2 on aggregate to the Eastern Conference Championship. Bobby Convey put the Quakes on top just six minutes into the match, leveling the aggregate score at 1-1. Ryan Johnson sent a dangerous cross into the area that came off of Scott Sealy’s chest. An unmarked Convey finished very well to Red Bulls ‘keeper Bouna Coundoul’s right. Convey added a second in the 76th minute off of an assist from substitute Arturo Alvarez. After Juan Pablo Angel pulled one back for New York just two minutes later, Budweiser Golden Boot winner Chris Wondolowski finished a 45-yard cross from Convey with a header in the 81st minute to clinch the aggregate goal series.

San Jose Signs GM John Doyle and Coach Frank Yallop to Multi-Year Contract Extensions
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that they signed General Manager of Soccer Operations John Doyle and Head Coach Frank Yallop to multi-year contract extensions. Both Yallop and Doyle are in their fourth straight year with the current Earthquakes. The duo has been with the Earthquakes since the franchise returned to Major League Soccer in 2008 and worked together closely to build the team that came within just one game of reaching the MLS Cup Final last year.

July 2 Match vs. New York Red Bulls to be Played at Stanford Stadium
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that the club has moved their Saturday, July 2 match against international stars Thierry Henry and Rafa Márquez and the New York Red Bulls to Stanford Stadium in Stanford, Calif. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT and air live on ESPN2. Following the match, the Earthquakes will treat fans to the best fireworks show on the Peninsula for the Fourth of July weekend. Fans can stay in their seats or move onto the field for the best view to watch the fireworks. The Epicenter Fan Zone will be moved from Buck Shaw Stadium to Stanford for the match. Fans will be able to enjoy foosball, corn hole, face painting and poster making prior to kickoff. Gourmet food trucks will also be on site.

Quakes President to Speak at Bay Area Council Outlook Conference
Earthquakes President David Kaval will be a panelist for “The Future of Sports in the Bay Area” during the annual Bay Area Council Outlook Conference at the Marriott Marquis San Francisco Hotel on Tuesday, April 12. Kaval will be joined by KNBR host Brian Murphy, San Francisco Giants President Larry Baer, Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl Executive Director Gary Cavalli, America’s Cup Event Authority CEO Craig Thompson and San Francisco 49ers President and CEO Jed York. The conference brings together Bay Area business leaders and public officials to examine business, political and economic trends impacting the coming year.

Earthquakes to Play Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field on May 3 in U.S. Open Cup Play-In Match
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that the club will play the Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field in Portland, Ore. on Tuesday, May 3 in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Play-in game. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT. The winner will face the Chicago Fire, who defeated the Colorado Rapids in their first U.S. Open Cup Play-in game last month. If the Quakes defeat Portland and Chicago, they will enter the main draw of the U.S. Open Cup along with seven other MLS clubs.

Earthquakes Announce Earth Day Celebration on April 23 at Buck Shaw Stadium
The San Jose Earthquakes will host an Earth Day Celebration, presented by the County of Santa Clara Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program, on Saturday, April 23 when they face off against Chivas USA at Buck Shaw Stadium at 1 p.m. PT. All fans in attendance will receive a reusable shopping bag, courtesy of the County of Santa Clara HHW Program. The night will feature additional giveaway items as the Quakes partner with MLS W.O.R.K.S., the charitable arm of Major League Soccer. Furthermore, the Earthquakes have teamed up with MLS W.O.R.K.S. to offset the carbon footprint for energy used at the stadium that night. Finally, Fans who drive a Hybrid car to the game will receive $5 off parking, while patrons who take VTA or Caltrain to the match will receive a $5 discount for a game ticket by showing their VTA or Caltrain receipt.

Dawkins Nominated for MLS Goal of the Week
Simon Dawkins found the scoresheet for the second time this season after a give-and-go with forward Chris Wondolowski against Toronto FC on Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium. The first-half goal has been nominated for MLS Goal of the Week. Ilija Stolika (New England), Camilo (Vancouver), O’Brian White (Seattle) and David Ferreira (Dallas) have also been nominated. Stephenson Wins MLS Goal of the Week
Khari Stephenson’s 35-yard blast into the far upper corner against Seattle Sounders FC two Saturdays ago at Buck Shaw Stadium was voted as MLS Goal of the Week last week. The scorcher beat out goals from Caleb Folan (Colorado Rapids), Teal Bunbury (Sporting KC), Stephen McCarthy (New England Revolution) and Dane Richards (New York Red Bulls). Voting ended at 11:59 p.m. PT last Thursday and saw Stephenson take home 30 percent of the total vote, with Folan coming in second with 23 percent.

History of the Quakes – New York Red Bulls Rivalry
The Earthquakes had a 10-game unbeaten streak against New York from Aug. 9, 1998-July 2, 2003, posting a 6-0-4 record during that stretch. The 10-game unbeaten streak is the third-longest streak against one opponent in club history … New York and San Jose had two classic shootouts in 2003 and 2004. On July 2, 2003, the Quakes and MetroStars tied 4-4 at Giants Stadium with Landon Donovan tying the game in stoppage time. The following year, the two teams combined for 10 goals in a 5-5 tie at Spartan Stadium on May 8. Cornell Glen tied the game for New York in the final minutes … The two teams met in the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time on Oct. 30, 2010 at Buck Shaw Stadium in the first leg of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The Red Bulls won 1-0 on a goal by Joel Lindpere, but the Earthquakes fought back in the return leg on Nov. 4 at Red Bull Arena to earn a 3-1 victory, with a brace from Bobby Convey and a goal from Chris Wondolowski, and passage through to the league semi-finals.
