San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski scored a late equalizer in the 87th minute to help the Earthquakes to a 1-1 road draw against Toronto FC. San Jose’s leading scorer found the net for the ninth time in 2011, polishing off a pass to the back post after Jacob Peterson found Bobby Burling’s head with a long throw into the area. With the draw, San Jose remained unbeaten in four trips to BMO Field since Toronto FC joined the league in 2008.

The San Jose Earthquakes extended their unbeaten streak to four matches following a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park. Earthquakes midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong came on as a sub at halftime and sparked the Quakes attack with two assists. Ramiro Corrales and Chris Wondolowksi scored the goals for San Jose, while Dominic Oduro and Cory Gibbs found the net for the Fire. Ampaipitakwong set up the Quakes first goal in the 49th minute with a perfect service on a corner kick that found Corrales in the box and he headed it in at the far post for the 1-0 lead. After Oduro tied the score, Ampaipitakwong helped San Jose regain the lead. Corrales drew two defenders and dropped a ball for Ampaipitakwong, who chipped a cross to Wondolowski in the box. Wondolowski flicked a header past Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson for a 2-1 lead in the 74th minute. Gibbs brought the Fire level again six minutes later with a header of his own to prevent San Jose from winning its third straight.


History of the Quakes – Chicago Fire Rivalry
The Earthquakes and the Chicago Fire have had a memorable rivalry since the Fire came into MLS in 1998.The most memorable game of the rivalry came in 2003, when Chicago and San Jose met for the MLS Cup at The Home Depot Center on Nov. 23. The Quakes defeated the Fire 4-2 in Frank Yallop’s final game as the head coach before returning two seasons ago. Landon Donovan scored two goals, while Ronnie Ekelund and Richard Mulrooney each netted a goal to lead the Quakes to the victory. That game was the only playoff meeting between two of the league’s most successful clubs … The two teams have played each other in a 1998 U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match that ended in a 1-1 tie before entering penalty kicks. The goals came from Lubos Kubik for Chicago and Jeff Baicher for San Jose. The Fire prevailed in the PK shootout, 4-3, on their way to winning the title ... Jason Hernandez made his MLS debut on Oct. 5, 2005, playing for New York against the Fire at Soldier Field in Chicago … The teams have since faced each other seven times from 2008-2011.
