Earthquakes acquire Fucito from Timbers

Mike Fucito - Timbers

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes acquired forward Mike Fucito from the Portland Timbers on Wednesday in exchange for the club’s second-round pick (No. 34 overall). The Earthquakes now have the right of first refusal to Fucito and may negotiate a contract.

Fucito, 26, joined the Timbers via trade from the Montreal Impact on April 20, 2012, and appeared in 12 games for Portland during the 2012 MLS regular season. The four-year MLS veteran has played 36 career regular-season matches for Seattle Sounders FC (2009-11), Montreal (2012) and Portland (2012), recording three goals and two assists.

The former Harvard standout was a two-time NSCAA All-American for the Crimson. He led his squad to the NCAA Tournament in three of his four years and was a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.

The Earthquakes still hold two picks in Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft, one in the first round (No. 15) and another in the second (No. 33). The event begins at 9 a.m. PT in Indianapolis, Ind. and will be streamed live on ESPN3, ESPNFC.com, MLSsoccer.com and YouTube.
