COLLEGE CUP: Austin-Ricks, Bashti advance to Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament

The Earthquakes Academy was well represented in the second round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament this past weekend as alumni John Austin-Ricks and Amir Bashti advanced to the Sweet 16 with their respective universities. 


Austin-Ricks kicked things off Sunday morning when his No. 8 ranked Syracuse Orange squared off against visiting Dartmouth Big Green. In a snow-covered pitch in Syracuse, Austin-Ricks and the Orange defeated Dartmouth in a commanding 3-0 win. The first-year defender logged 32 minutes in the victory, coming on in the 34th minute to finish the first half before coming on again in the 69th minute to finish out the match. 



Bashti wrapped things up for the Quakes Academy alumni in No. 5 Stanford's comfortable 2-0 win against University of Pacific Sunday evening. Bashti tallied an assist on the opening goal in the 37th minute, slipping a ball through to forward Foster Langsdorf for the finish. Bashti recorded 40 minutes in the victory, coming on as a 30-minute substitute to close out the first 45 minutes before coming on in the 65th minute to secure the win. The second-year midfielder also logged two shots in the performance. 


Austin-Ricks and Syracuse will host the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Sweet 16. The match kicks off Sunday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. PT. Bashti and Stanford will also host their Sweet 16 fixture against Virginia Sunday, Nov. 27 at 5 p.m.
