Back in August, we set out to find the Earthquakes next general manager and I could not be more excited about what we accomplished. We are proud to announce that
Jesse Fioranelli
from AS Roma will be the new general manager of the San Jose Earthquakes.
The process was lengthy, as we chose to cut no corners or expense in our search, but we are confident that the right decision was made in the end. We spent a great deal of time overseas, getting a first-hand look at how candidates operate in their own environment. We met with a lot of great options here in the United States as well, many with excellent resumes.
At the end of the day,
Jesse Fioranelli’s
background and experience was the one we compared all others to. Some candidates met his experience as an executive on the team side, but couldn’t match the connections he built as an agent. Some candidates had formed strong relationships around the world, but had little to no experience working within a front office. Time and time again, we circled back to Jesse as our best option and we didn’t hesitate to make that possibility a reality.
With Jesse playing an integral role, Roma experienced success both on and off the field during his tenure. His expertise in the area of analytics immediately stood out to us and Roma was recently named among the most tech savvy sports teams in the world. He developed a communications app for the entire technical side to use and proposed and implemented the “Roma Way” philosophy throughout the club. He is a specialist in the area of scouting, recruiting and player development, and will invest in those areas to help bring both our first team and youth system to the next level.
As an agent, he led a large group that facilitated player transfers throughout Europe, North America and Latin America. His six years in this role have created some relationships and bonds that could bear fruit in his new position with the Quakes.
I am looking forward to having Jesse work closely with Chris Leitch, Dominic Kinnear and the rest of our technical staff to help build a team that will compete for the playoffs year in and year out.
We are introducing Jesse at a press conference at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10 at Avaya Stadium and all season ticket holders are invited to attend.
I’m positive that the best fans in MLS here in San Jose will quickly become as excited about Jesse Fioranelli’s arrival as I am.
