The San Jose Earthquakes announced Saturday that the club has signed Panamanian center back Harold Cummings to a multi-year contract. Below are five things to know about the club’s newest defender.

Cummings, 24, has made 46 appearances for the Panama National Team. For the sake of comparison, fellow Panamanian Anibal Godoy was 25 years old and had 54 caps for the National Team upon signing with the Quakes in 2015.

He is well-traveled, having played for teams in Panama, Uruguay, Peru, Colombia and Costa Rica.

Cummings helped Colombian side Independiente Santa Fe win the Copa Sudamericana in 2015 over teams such as Argentina’s River Plate and Lanus.

Cummings was part of the Panama U-20 squad that qualified for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.

He has appeared in 14 CONCACAF Champions League matches, making 13 starts, and has faced Toronto FC, Real Salt Lake and the Houston Dynamo in the competition.
