NEWS: Earthquakes to host #MarchToSoccer Week ahead of March 4 Home Opener

SAN JOSE, Calif. –
The San Jose Earthquakes will kick off the 2017 MLS regular season with a week filled with competitions, activities and events throughout the South Bay. The #MarchToSoccer will begin on Feb. 25 with the meet-the-team event at Avaya Stadium and will feature a variety of activations leading to the home opener on March 4, 2017 at 6:45 p.m. against the Montreal Impact.


In addition to activities, including a FIFA day with Tommy Thompson and Fatai Alashe, a pub-crawl and a Quakes Lego build, competitions including a juggling contest with professional street soccer performers, inflatable goals and Earthquakes seats will take place at various locations. Prizes include an all-inclusive trip to the Quakes vs. LA match on Aug. 27 for two people, a customized Quakes Xbox console, Quakes tickets, signed Quakes memorabilia and merchandise.
To support the flood relief efforts in the community, the Earthquakes will have donation area in San Pedro Square Market throughout the week in which fans can give money to the cause.

Saturday, Feb. 25:
Meet the Team
Avaya Stadium
3:30 p.m.
Following the preseason match against Sacramento Republic FC, the Quakes will host a meet the team event for season ticket holders. Earthquakes general manager Jesse Fioranelli will participate in a town hall question and answer session with fans immediately after the match, followed by autographs with the players. The match will take place at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 26:
Free Play Day presented by Valley Health Plan
San Jose City College
10 a.m.–1 p.m.
Kids within the 5-11 age range are invited to participate in the Free Play day, presented by Valley Health Plan, enabling kids to scrimmage and simply enjoy the game with no coaching or scouting pressure. Equipment including balls, goals and pinnies will be provided as will lunch, courtesy of Erik’s Deli. Participants should bring their own cleats, shin guards and water. Plaza de Cesar Chavez
Two Avaya Stadium seats will be in Plaza de Cesar Chavez waiting for fans to sit in them and take photos. Fans are encouraged to tweet the photos with the hashtag #SeismicSeats for a chance to win tickets to the home opener on March 4 against the Montreal Impact. Anyone who comes to the seats will receive an immediate prize.
Monday, Feb. 27:
Quake It Up Day
1-5 p.m.
The San Jose Earthquakes will be out in the community delivering gifts to local businesses. Fans are invited to share their Quakes pride by displaying their Quakes memorabilia in their homes, offices and on social media throughout the day. Those looking get some more Quakes gear can stop by the front office or find a representative in the community throughout the day.

FIFA Day with Fatai Alashe and Tommy Thompson

All day, 6 p.m. with players
Three different FIFA stations will be set up in San Pedro Square Market all day for fans to play the 2017 edition of the video game. At 6 p.m., Earthquakes midfielders Tommy Thompson and Fatai Alashe will there playing with fans. Everyone who participates throughout the day will be entered to win a customized Quakes Xbox console.
Juggling Contest
Plaza de Cesar Chavez
A professional street soccer performer will be in Plaza de Cesar Chavez. The first 10 people to juggle three times with the performer will win an Earthquakes ball autographed by a player. Clues will be posted on Twitter regarding the location of the juggler throughout the day.

Meet the Earthquakes Special Olympics Unified Team

The Earthquakes are partnering with Special Olympics Northern California to participate in the Special Olympics Unified program. Fans can meet the Earthquakes Special Olympics Unified team at San Pedro Square Market between 1-3 p.m. The Earthquakes will host a Special Olympics Unified game between the Earthquakes and LA Galaxy following the match between the California rivals on May 27 at Avaya Stadium. The Earthquakes Unified team will then travel with the First Team to Carson City to play following the matchup on Aug. 27.
