He was born in Cádiz, Spain and this will be his sixth season with the club. While in Spain, Luis was awarded his “UEFA A” and “UEFA B” licenses by the Royal Spanish Federation of Soccer. He was also recognized with a “Specialized Coaching Youth Diploma” awarded by the Andalusian Federation of Soccer. Luis' involvement with coaching began with the Sevilla FC Academy Player Program, where he discovered his love for coaching at an early age.

Before arriving to the San Jose Earthquakes Academy, Luis spent four seasons as an academy coach for Liverpool FC International Academy Bay Area and as the Director of the Futsal Program. Previously Luis had spent two years in Lansing, Michigan, coaching for Michigan Chill SC and as an assistant coach for their very successful WPSL team. This gave him the opportunity to work with a large number of professional and international players.

Luis played professional soccer in different clubs in Spain and Austria while simultaneously earning his B.A. in Translation and Interpreting of Languages and a M.A. in Linguistics Applied to Foreign Languages.

Garcia’s passion and main focus of study has always been the importance of teenage athlete conduct, psychology, motivation and needs which he strongly believes is just as key to maximize the overall development of young academy players as the on-field development.
