Explain what it means to you to get this honor.
It means a lot to me because my son passed away on the 25th of June and I’ve been going to the soccer games, sitting side-by-side, with him since 1976.
How far back does your support for the Quakes go?
They started in 1974, but I was just a young punk with no money and a child and a wife, so I didn’t have money for tickets. I only scrounged enough in ’76 to get tickets.
What’s your most memorable moment with the club?
San Jose Earthquakes v LA Galaxy Playoff Match, November 9, 2003:
This [playoff] was at Spartan Stadium. We were screaming. I mean, I couldn’t talk for three days after that match. We had an Argentine forward who dribbles down. Landon Donovan gives him a pass. He’s one-on-one with the keeper and scores, and we win it in sudden death overtime.

Who would you say is your favorite Quakes player of all time and why?
Chris Wondolowski just because I saw him start out in Quake’s version two, before they moved to Houston. I remember watching him thinking ‘this kid is not bad.’ But a close second would have to be Paul Child from the original Quakes.
What would be your message to Quakes fans out there?
Just hang in there. Soccer is a brutal sport but it also has magical memories. The memories I have sitting next to my son for 48 years is worth everything in the world.
