The Earthquakes announced on Wednesday the signing of midfielder Eduardo Lopez, nicknamed La Chofis. Here are five things to know about the Quakes’ new signing:


  1. Lopez joins San Jose on a season-long loan with option to buy or extend from Mexico’s Chivas de Guadalajara. Lopez becomes the second player to spend the 2021 season on loan in San Jose, joining countryman Oswaldo Alanis, also from Chivas.


  1. The Torreon, Mexico native helped Chivas lift five trophies: one Liga MX championship (Clausura 2017), two Copa MX (Apertura 2015, Clausura 2017), one Supercopa MX (2016) and one Concacaf Champions League (2018) – all under Quakes head coach Matias Almeyda.


  1. La Chofis has competed for Chivas his entire professional career, including nearly three years under Almeyda from September 2015 to June 2018. Since his debut, Lopez has tallied 21 goals and 12 assists in 185 appearances cross all competitions with the 12-time Liga MX winning club.


  1. The 26-year-old traditionally plays as an attacking central midfielder. With a preferred left foot, he can also play as both a left and right winger while maintaining his creative style of play.


  1. Lopez will be no stranger in the Quakes’ locker room as he will reunite with previous Chivas teammates Oswaldo Alanis and Carlos Fierro, along with the entire coaching staff.
