ACADEMY: Cade Cowell leads U-19s to opening day victory at Allstate Winter Cup

Cade Cowell - Debut - 2019 - CF Monterrey

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (Dec. 4, 2019) - A nosebleed and the Shattuck-St. Mary's defense couldn't stop Cade Cowell from finding the back of the net on Wednesday. Cowell scored twice, once in each half, and set up another goal to pace the San Jose Earthquakes to a 3-1 triumph on the opening day of the 2019 Allstate U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Cup in a U-18/19 Group D clash.

The Earthquakes and Cowell, who signed with the club as a Homegrown Player in January, wasted little time finding the back of the net. The 16-year-old attacker fired a shot from the left side of the penalty area past goalkeeper Xavier Valdez to score in the first minute.

With the wind at its back, San Jose controlled possession for the rest of the first half, but couldn't solve the Shattuck defense to add to its lead.

Cowell was forced from the match for several minutes midway through the first half due to a nosebleed before returning to action. His return was impactful for San Jose, as he turned playmaker in the 55th minute when Eduardo Blancas put away Cowell's left-wing cross at the right edge of the goalkeepers' box to double the lead.
