The San Jose Earthquakes Boys' and Girls' Academy squads are in the midst of a break during the 2017-18 Development Academy season.

The Boys return to action on Saturday, Jan. 27, with the U-15s, U-17s and U-19s taking on Sacramento Republic FC at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento. The Girls return on Saturday, Feb. 10 with a slate of games against the San Diego Surf in Del Mar, Calif.

Quakes' U-19 defender Jacob Akanyirige became the club's fourth-ever Homegrown Player signing and first directly from the Academy with no experience in college. Akanyirige, 15, is the eighth-youngest MLS signing ever and the youngest signing in the history of Bay Area team sports.

In other news, Quakes Girls' Academy midfielder Sophie Jones was called to the U.S. U-17s, while defender Andrea Kitahata earned the No. 1 ranking in the Northern CA/Hawaii region.
