At the ripe age of 38, Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch is enjoying one of his best seasons in MLS and is poised to break career and club saves records.
Boasting a league-leading 110 saves with seven games remaining in his campaign, Busch has already surpassed Troy Perkins’ 2013 MLS-best 109 saves. Busch is aiming to set a new personal record as he inches closer to his career mark of 132 with the Columbus Crew back in 2004. San Jose’s starter is also flirting with Joe Cannon’s 14-year club record of 137 saves in a season, which he accomplished in 2000.
While we expect he’ll fall short of the league record, 184 set by Scott Garlick with the Tampa Bay Mutiny in 2000, he could end up with more saves than any goalkeeper since Nick Rimando’s 146 in 2007.
