Earthquakes Acquire F Quincy Amarikwa from Chicago Fire

SAN JOSE, Calif. –
The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that they have acquired forward Quincy Amarikwa from the Chicago Fire in exchange for defender Ty Harden. Per league rules, Amarikwa will not be eligible to play until after July 8 when the secondary transfer window reopens.
Amarikwa was originally drafted by the Earthquakes in the third round (32nd overall) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft out of UC Davis. He made 25 appearances for the club and tallied two assists and one goal before being traded to the Colorado Rapids in 2010.
“We know Quincy well and we are happy to bring him to San Jose,” said Earthquakes head coach Dominic Kinnear. “We think he will come here help us as we head into a very busy and important part of the schedule. On the other hand, it is sad to see to Ty go, but we sincerely thank him for his efforts and wish him a lot of luck.”
After notching three goals and an assist in 31 appearances over parts of the next three years with the Rapids, Amarikwa signed with Toronto FC in July of 2012 and played out the remainder of the season with the Canadian side. He started six games and appeared in five others for TFC before signing with Chicago prior to the 2013 season and scoring three goals in 14 games for the Fire that year.
Amarikwa, 27, had a breakout season in 2014, tallying career-highs in goals (eight), assists (five), starts (29) and games played (32). He also added two goals in U.S. Open Cup play.
Prior to his MLS career, Amarikwa starred for UC Davis. Over four seasons, he recorded 31 goals and seven assists in 77 games. As a senior in 2008, Amarikwa was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Year and a Second-Team All-American after leading the Aggies to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
