The San Jose Earthquakes have partnered with Sutter Health for the Get Earthquakes Fit program. Starting in 2009, the Get Earthquakes Fit program was created to educate third and fourth grade students about healthy lifestyles. It includes 10 fun games to encourage students to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle, including healthy eating tips. All the games meet the California State Physical Education Standards.

So far during the 2016 season, the Quakes have kicked off the program in 17 elementary schools in the greater San Jose area, with the hopes of doubling that number by the end of the season. Each school has approximately 200 students participating.

At the conclusion of the five-week program, the Earthquakes return to the schools for a celebration with either mascot ‘Q’ or a player. The player reiterates the importance of being healthy by telling their stories of their paths to becoming a professional soccer player. Midfielders Shea Salinas and Tommy Thompson enjoy telling their stories and showing off some of their soccer skills for all of the students.
