SAN JOSE, Calif. — San Jose Earthquakes II fell to Ventura County FC 3-1 on Wednesday night at Spartan Soccer Complex in MLS NEXT Pro regular-season play.
The hosts opened the scoring early in the second minute when San Jose right winger Zach Bohane intercepted a deflected shot by Quakes II left winger Julian Donnery and found the back of the net. This marks Bohane’s ninth goal of the season, extending his club lead. Ventura found the equalizer just before halftime when center back Jose Luis Magaña Jr. headed in a corner kick by midfielder Vincente Garcia in minute 45+2.
The visitors took the lead ten minutes into the second half when forward Julian Placias received the ball from right back Mason Vanney and battled past Quakes II center back Niklas Dossmann to hammer home the go-ahead goal. In the 68th minute, Ventura left winger Luis Müller capitalized on a breakaway and sent the ball past San Jose keeper Nate Crockford, setting the final scoreline at 3-1.
At the conclusion of the match, Quakes II remains in 10th place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference and remains in fifth place in the Pacific Division (9-11-6; 36 points). Ventura County FC remains in fourth place in the MLSNP Western Conference and second place in the Pacific Division (13-6-7; 50 points).
Quakes II concludes the homestand with a matchup against Real Monarchs on Sunday, Sept. 13. Kickoff from Spartan Soccer Complex will take place at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast via OneFootball, as well as on MLSNEXTPro.com.
