SAN JOSE, Calif. — San Jose Earthquakes II defeated LAFC2 3-2 on Sunday night at Spartan Soccer Complex in MLS NEXT Pro regular-season play.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 18th minute when midfielder Kaedren Spivey volleyed home a deflected shot by Quakes II right winger Zach Bohane. Just six minutes later, Bohane doubled San Jose’s lead in the 24th minute when left back Shane de Flores curled the ball into the 18-yard box and Bohane finished it with a header into the net.
San Jose kept their foot on the gas throughout the match and were rewarded in the 68th minute when midfielder Kaedren Spivey successfully battled for the ball, sending it in to Bohane who’s shot was deflected to forward Tomo Allen who netted the third for the hosts.
LAFC2 secured a lifeline when Lisandro Torres found the back of the net from the top of the 18-yard box in the 79th minute. Adrian Sanders got another one back for the visitors seven minutes later off of a corner kick. After a late second-half nailbiter, San Jose held on to win 3-2 and remain in a playoff position.
At the conclusion of the match, Quakes II remains in eighth place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference and fifth place in the Pacific Division (9-9-6). LAFC2 remains in fifth place in the MLSNP Western Conference and third place in the Pacific Division (10-7-8).
Quakes II continues the homestand and faces Tacoma Defiance on Saturday, Sept. 5. Kickoff from Spartan Soccer Complex will take place at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast via OneFootball, as well as on MLSNEXTPro.com.
