SAN JOSE, Calif. — The San Jose Earthquakes II announced today that Head Coach Dan DeGeer has been signed to a new contract through the 2027-28 MLS NEXT Pro season. The new deal marks DeGeer's 10th season with the organization, joining San Jose originally in 2017 as the Quakes Academy Under-13 head coach. DeGeer led each academy age group from U-13 to U-17 before taking the helm of the Earthquakes’ MLSNP squad in 2022.
“Dan has done an outstanding job leading Quakes II and has been an important part of both this club and our player development pathway for a number of years,” said Earthquakes Director of Operations Alex Saunders. “He has played a significant role in the development of many players who are now contributing at the First-Team level, while continuing to create an environment with high standards where the next generation of players can develop, compete and prepare themselves for that opportunity. We’re excited to have Dan continue leading Quakes II and look forward to building on what he has already accomplished with the club.”
Under DeGeer’s leadership, Quakes II closed the 2025 campaign with 14 wins and 52 points to earn the Pacific Division title for a second consecutive season. For his accomplishments, he was named a finalist for MLSNP Coach of the Year. This year, Quakes II occupies the fifth-place spot in the Pacific Division standings with 33 points in 23 matches (8-9-6), having netted 40 goals.

DeGeer will continue to work closely with Quakes Academy Director Luchi Gonzalez and Earthquakes Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena on San Jose’s prolific professional player development pathway. Of the current First-Team roster, 19 Earthquakes players have previously appeared for Quakes II under DeGeer since 2022. The MLSNP squad’s top goalscorer in 2025, Nonso Adimabua, netted 13 times and earned a First-Team contract this February. San Jose midfielder Beau Leroux began his professional career under the guidance of DeGeer before becoming a consistent starter for the First Team, with eight goal contributions (3g/5a) so far in the 2026 Major League Soccer regular season.
Current Earthquakes midfielders Kaedren Spivey and Edwyn Mendoza have been called up to the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team and U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team, respectively under the leadership of DeGeer this year. The duo has secured a combined 11 goal contributions (4g/7a) in MLSNP regular-season play so far in 2026. Quakes II team captain Alejandro Cano was also called for international duty to represent the El Salvador senior national team in international friendlies ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In addition, Quakes Academy and Second-Team goalkeeper Marcelo Ávalos has become the starting keeper for the Mexico U-17 national team squad, which qualified for the upcoming 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar this November.
