NEWS: Darwin Ceren and Jahmir Hyka Called to Respective National Teams

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that midfielders Darwin Ceren and Jahmir Hyka have been called up to their respective national teams.


Ceren, 27, will join the El Salvador National Team for an international friendly against Ecuador on June 13 at 5 p.m. PT at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. The two sides have faced each other in three international friendlies since 2009, with Ecuador prevailing victorious in all three encounters.


The match comes in preparation for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where El Salvador will face Mexico, Curacao and Jamaica during the group stage. Ceren has appeared in 12 games making 10 starts for the Quakes this season. He most recently joined Los Cuscatlecos in March for friendlies against Curacao and CD Olympia.


Hyka, 29, will join the Albania National Team for a FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Israel on June 11 at 11:45 a.m. at Haifa International Stadium. Albania currently sits in fourth place in Group G behind Spain, Italy and Israel.


Hyka has scored two goals in 42 appearances with the Albania National Team since making his senior team debut at 18 years old in 2007. He most recently joined the national team for a Qualifier against Italy on March 24, where Albania fell 2-0.


The midfielders are the latest Quakes to receive international call-ups, joining Cordell Cato (Trinidad & Tobago), Kip Colvey (New Zealand), Shaun Francis (Jamaica), Anibal Godoy (Panama), Marco Ureña (Costa Rica) and Chris Wondolowski (United States).
