Matt Bersano - Welcome - 2017

SAN JOSE, Calif. –
The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has signed goalkeeper Matt Bersano to a multi-year contract.

Bersano, 24, joins San Jose after playing with Seattle Sounders 2 in 2016 and spending the 2017 preseason as a trialist with the Quakes.
“We are very excited to add a talented young player that has shown a strong interest in our organization,” said Earthquakes general manager Jesse Fioranelli. “He will be a valuable addition to both San Jose and Reno 1868 FC this season.”
Bersano began his collegiate career at Oregon State where he started 18 matches and recorded a 1.17 goals against average, which ranked fourth in school history, as a redshirt freshman in 2012. The Chandler, Ariz. native recorded four shutouts and 79 saves, earning him Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team honors.
In his sophomore season, Bersano set the school’s single-season record with 101 saves and earned Pac-12 Second Team honors. In his third and final season with the Beavers, Bersano was selected Pac-12 Honorable Mention after starting 17 matches and recording 68 saves, allowing just 1.05 goals per game.
After the 2014 season, Bersano declined a contract with the USL’s Real Monarchs, instead transferring to Penn State, where he earned a master’s degree. In his lone season as a Nittany Lion, Bersano made 42 saves in 13 matches and recorded five shutouts.
Bersano spent his youth career with the Real Salt Lake AZ Academy.
