NEWS: Earthquakes to Face Monterey Bay F.C. in Third Round of 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on April 25

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will face USL Championship side Monterey Bay F.C. in the Third Round of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, April 25 (7 p.m. PT) at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, Calif.

The Quakes and Monterey Bay F.C., separated by 70 miles, have never met in meaningful competition. The two teams faced off in preseason in 2022 and 2023, with San Jose prevailing on both occasions. Monterey is led by head coach Frank Yallop, a member of the Earthquakes Hall of Fame.

The Earthquakes hold a 20-17 all-time record in the U.S. Open Cup, including a 16-3 record against non-MLS teams.

In its 108th edition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup - U.S. Soccer's National Championship - has crowned a champion annually since 1914 – with the exception of 2020 & 21 due to COVID-19. The history-filled tournament is conducted on a single-game, knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor United States soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States and the world's third-longest continuously run national cup tournament.
