SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes defender Marcos Lopez has been called to the Peru National Team for three FIFA World Cup qualifying matches during the month of September.
Peru will host Uruguay on Sept. 2 (6 p.m. PT) and Venezuela on Sept. 5 (6 p.m.) before hitting the road to face Brazil on Sept. 9 (5:30 p.m.). Peru is currently in 10th place in CONMEBOL, with four teams gaining automatic qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the fifth-place team advancing to the inter-confederation playoffs.
Lopez, 21, has tallied two goals and three assists in 43 appearances (34 starts) since joining the Quakes ahead of the 2019 season. He has made eight starts in 12 total appearances for San Jose in 2021.
