NEWS: Marcos Lopez Called to Peru National Team for World Cup Qualifiers

San Jose Earthquakes defender Marcos Lopez has been called to the Peru National Team for two FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Colombia (Jan. 28) and Ecuador (Feb. 1).

Peru will face Colombia at Estadio Metropolitano on Friday, Jan. 28 (1 p.m. PT) before hosting Ecuador at Estadio Nacional on Tuesday, Feb. 1 (6 p.m. PT). Peru is currently in fifth place in CONMEBOL, with four teams gaining automatic qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the fifth-place team advancing to the inter-confederation playoffs.

Lopez, 22, has made 18 prior appearances for the Peru National Team, most recently participating in Peru’s January camp and playing in a friendly against Panama on Jan. 16. The Callao, Peru native has tallied three goals and six assists in 52 appearances (42 starts) since joining the Quakes ahead of the 2019 season. Lopez, who is entering his fourth season with the Earthquakes, tallied one goal and three assists across 21 appearances for San Jose in 2021.
