SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Eduardo ‘Chofis’ Lopez has been named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week for Week 27 after tallying a goal and the game-winning assist during Saturday night’s 2-0 victory over LAFC. Chofis has now been selected to the MLS Team of the Week for three consecutive weeks (25-27) while also earning Player of the Week honors in Week 26.
Chofis assisted a third-minute goal by Benji Kikanovic to give San Jose an early lead. He then scored less than three minutes into the second half to double San Jose’s advantage. Chofis now has a team-high 11 goals in 2021, the most by a Quakes player in his first season with the club since Ariel Graziani in 2002 (14). He also became the first Earthquakes player to score in three straight matches since Vako in July 2019.
Chofis has scored a league-best six goals during the month of September, including three vs. Real Salt Lake (9/15), two vs. Austin FC (9/18) and one vs. LAFC (9/25).
His 11 goals so far this season are tied for the second most by any Mexican player in their first year in MLS.
