SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will welcome retired Mexican National Team and Quakes midfielder Missael Espinoza to Avaya Stadium next Wednesday, Sept. 19 to celebrate Mexican Heritage Night as the Quakes take on Atlanta United FC at 7:45 p.m., presented by PG&E. The Quakes have several activities planned for fans to celebrate the evening, including an autograph session with Espinoza in the 7UP Epicenter prior to kickoff, a Lucha Libre match, live music and a halftime performance featuring traditional Mexican dances.
Espinoza was an inaugural member Major League Soccer, playing with San Jose during the 1996 season. He scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 26 appearances for the club, earning the first-ever MVP honors for San Jose. Espinoza also enjoyed a successful career in Liga MX, playing for Monterrey, Chivas, Leon, Necaxa and Queretaro, and for the Mexico National Team, playing 40 games and scoring four goals for El Tri. Espinoza will be in a booth in the 7UP Epicenter singing autographs and taking photos with fans.
Fans can also enjoy live music and a Lucha Libre in the 7UP Epicenter pregame and can enter to win a co-branded Quakes and Mexican Heritage Night poncho.
Food and drink specials will also be available to fans leading up to kickoff, with a dollar off house margaritas and Modelo drafts. A fajita and rice bowl will also be for sale at the concession stands while supplies last.
At halftime, Los Laureles will perform traditional Mexican dances on the field. Founded in 2007, Los Laureles have performed at Oakland Raiders and San Francisco Giants games, along with many parades and festivals.
