PRESEASON MATCH RECAP: Earthquakes 4, Minnesota United FC 1


INDIO, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Minnesota United FC 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif. as part of the 2023 Coachella Valley Invitational.

The Earthquakes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a pair of goals in the first nine minutes by Cristian Espinoza. Minnesota halved the deficit with a penalty kick in the 14th minute.

San Jose replaced all 10 outfield players at halftime. Seventeen-year-old midfielder Niko Tsakiris and SuperDraft selection Daniel Munie each added a goal in the second half to give the Earthquakes a 4-1 lead before the final whistle.

The Quakes will now face the New York Red Bulls on Feb. 18 before returning to San Jose ahead of the regular season opener on Feb. 25 in Atlanta.
