PREVIEW: Marco Urena, Costa Rica to face off against the United States and Mexico in FIFA World Cup Qualifying

Marco Urena and Costa Rica have two massive FIFA World Cup Qualifiers ahead of them. La Sele continue Round 5 of qualiying with a primetime bout with San Jose teammate Chris Wondolowski and the United States Friday, Sept. 1 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. Following Friday’s fixture, El Tiburon Tico heads back to Costa Rica to face off against Mexico Tuesday, Sept. 5 at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose. 


La Tricolor are in great standing heading into these next two games, sitting in second place with 11 points behind first place Mexico (14 points) and ahead of third place USA (11 points). 


Urena will look to build off of his promising performance in last month’s Gold Cup after helping lead Costa Rica to the tournament’s semifinal. In the first match of the Gold Cup tournament against Honduras on July 7, Urena scored the game-winning goal to help Costa Rica win their group.
