Quakes announce celebrity scoopers for A&W Root Beer Float Night pres. by 7UP

Root Beer Float Recap

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes have a power-packed lineup for their 4th Annual A&W Root Beer Float Night, presented by 7UP, on Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium.

The list of local celebrities participating includes FIFA World Cup winner Brandi Chastain, Giants infielder Adam Duvall, 2014 United States Olympian Polina Edmunds and former U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder Leslie Osborne. The event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. PT in the Epicenter Fan Zone prior to the club’s clash with FC Dallas on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Duvall was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in February of 2012. That year, he went on to hit 30 home runs with 100 RBI in 134 games with the San Jose Giants. After starting the 2014 season with the Fresno Grizzlies, Duvall got his first call-up to the San Francisco Giants in June and recently re-joined the team as they push toward the playoffs.

The group will scoop, pour and serve root beer floats to fans with a recommended $5 donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Each fan that makes the recommended donation will also receive an A&W souvenir cup while supplies last. Last year, the Earthquakes raised $10,500 for JDRF.

JDRF is the leading global organization focused on Type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is now the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF research is to improve the lives of all people affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners who share this goal.

Since its founding in 1970, JDRF has awarded more than $1.6 billion to diabetes research. Past JDRF efforts have helped to significantly advance the care of people with this disease, and have expanded the critical scientific understanding of T1D. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
