Earthquakes Youth Academy Update


Academy U-18s Fall to Santa Cruz Breakers; U-16s Rescheduled
The San Jose Earthquakes U-18s lost 4-2 against the Santa Cruz Breakers on Saturday at Cabrillo College. Luis Navarro put the Quakes on the board first in the seventh minute, but the Breakers would score the next two before John Knutsen leveled for San Jose in the 45th minute. Santa Cruz pulled away with a pair of second-half goals, dropping the Quakes to 1-2-1 in Northwest Division play and 4-6-2 overall.


The U-16s match was suspended and will be rescheduled for a later date.

Wondolowski Sees Time in 1-0 Win for US National Team vs. Venezuela
San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski helped the U.S. National Team to a 1-0 win against Venezuela at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on Saturday. Wondolowski came on for Benny Feilhaber in the 62nd minute and rattled off three shots, two of which were on frame. His second effort on goal was destined for the net if not for a diving save by Venezuelan goalkeeper Jose Morales. Wondolowski’s appearance was his sixth cap with the U.S. National Team.


Former Earthquakes midfielder Ricardo Clark scored the game-winner seven minutes into stoppage time in the second half, heading home a corner kick from Jermaine Jones. The U.S. returns to action against Panama on Wednesday at Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City. The match kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and Galavision.


Earthquakes Return to San Luis Obispo for Preseason Exhibition
For a second consecutive year, the San Jose Earthquakes will play the Colorado Rapids in San Luis Obispo, Calif., as part of the MLS Central Coast Challenge hosted by Cal Poly Athletics. The match will kick off at 6 p.m. PT at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

Earthquakes Pick Four in 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft
The San Jose Earthquakes selected four players in last week’s MLS Supplemental Draft, including: forward Cesar Diaz Pizarro (No. 25 overall, UC Riverside), defender David Tiemstra (No. 44, Ohio State), defender James Kiffe (No. 63, UC Santa Barbara) and defender Tyler Krumpe (No. 73, Loyola Marymount). The group is now in camp with the Earthquakes ahead of their first preseason trip to Tucson, Ariz., on Jan. 30.


Quakes Trade Right of First Refusal for M Thomas to Sporting KC for Supplemental Draft Pick
The San Jose Earthquakes announced on Jan. 17 that the club acquired Sporting Kansas City’s natural fourth-round pick in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft (No. 73 overall) in exchange for the right of first refusal for midfielder Michael Thomas. The Earthquakes selected Thomas in the second round, No. 19 overall, of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. The midfielder from Notre Dame initially joined San Jose in training camp before signing with Halmstads (Sweden).


Great Start to Suite Sales: Nine of 12 Luxury Suites Sold for Earthquakes’ New Stadium
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that the club has sold nine of its 12 available field-level luxury suites for its new stadium at Coleman Ave. in San Jose, Calif., generating over $3 million in revenue. Luxury suites originally went on sale to the general public on Dec. 9. Since then, the club has sold 75-percent of its inventory. Tickets for Home Opener, June 30 Match at Stanford Stadium On Sale
Tickets for the San Jose Earthquakes’ home opener and the team’s match at Stanford Stadium against the LA Galaxy went on sale to the general public on Jan. 13. San Jose faces the New England Revolution in the home opener on Saturday, March 10, at Buck Shaw Stadium, while the LA Galaxy game takes place on Saturday, June 30, at Stanford Stadium. Tickets can be purchased at www.sjearthquakes.com, www.tickets.com or by calling 800-225-2277. Individual tickets for the remaining games went on sale on Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. PT.


2012 Earthquakes Pre-Season Schedule
Players reported to camp on Jan. 16, 2012, in San Jose. The club will make three different pre-season trips: Tucson, Ariz. (Jan. 30-Feb. 4), Ventura, Calif. (Feb. 12-18) and Portland, Ore. (Feb. 26-March 5).


The Earthquakes will participate in a four-team round-robin tournament in Portland. All games will be held at  JELD-WEN Field. Earthquakes President David Kaval’s office hours continue during the offseason. Fans can drop by his office at 451 El Camino Real, Suite 220 in Santa Clara, Calif., on a new day, Tuesdays, between 3 and 5 p.m. PT, beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Participants will be seen on a first come, first serve basis.
