SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes continued to gear up for the regular season by hosting Fresno Fuego FC at the Earthquakes Training Facility and earning a 4-0 victory.

San Jose had the majority of the chances on goal, creating numerous scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes.

The Quakes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute. Forward Adam Jahn slipped a through ball to midfielder Sanna Nyassi, who used his pace to beat a defender and slip the ball past the Fuego keeper and into the back of the net.

San Jose found the net again in the 38th minute. Midfielder Tommy Thompson connected with forward Mike Fucito at the top of the 18-yard box. Fucito then fought through a challenge to maintain possession and curled the ball into the bottom-right corner of the goal.  

The Earthquakes added to their lead once more before halftime, scoring their second goal in a two-minute span. In the 40th minute, Jahn chipped a short pass from the goal line and the Thompson firmly headed the ball past the keeper.

San Jose brought in five substitutes at halftime, replacing three of the four starting defenseman and two midfield players.

In the 50th minute, the Quakes scored their fourth and final goal, with Jahn heading in a corner kick by midfielder Leandro Barrera. Barrera whipped in a left-footed in-swinger and Jahn was able to use his tall frame to get to the ball. Jahn finished the match with one goal and two assists.

Five additional players were substituted for San Jose in the 64th minute, with goalkeeper Bryan Meredith being the only player to be on the pitch for the duration of the match.

The Earthquakes creating several more scoring opportunities before the final whistle sounded, including a JJ Koval bicycle kick in the 78th minute and a rocket off the crossbar by Trialist #3 in the 88th minute.

The Earthquakes return to preseason action against Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 5:00 p.m. PT at Bonney Field.
