RENO 1868 FC: Gleadle and Carroll named to USL Championship Team of the Week

Reno 1868 FC midfielder Sam Gleadle and defender Zach Carroll were both named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 18, marking the second straight week in which Reno have two players earn Team of the Week honors. Carroll becomes the seventh 1868 player to receive the honor this season.


Gleadle becomes Reno’s fifth player to be named to the list twice in 2019, joining defender Duke Lacroix, forward Corey Hertzog and former Reno 1868 FC forward Brian Brown. Gleadle was the first player in club history to tally two goals and an assist in a single match when Reno defeated Rio Grande Valley FC 4-0 on Wednesday, July 3, putting him at four goals and three assists recorded in USL Championship matchups this season.


Carroll’s appearance on the Team of the Week roster was his first in 2019. Carroll tallied his first goal of the year against and his third for Reno 1868 FC, while also making the effort to help his side record their fourth shutout of the season in Week 18’s matchup against Rio Grande Valley FC.


Reno defeated Liga MX ‘s Club America U-20s 3-2 in an international friendly at Greater Nevada Field on Friday, July 12. Gleadle, the Team of the Week honoree, opened the scoresheet with a goal in the 25th minute. Club America responded with a pair a of goals in the 30th and 35th minute, taking the lead with them into half time. Reno completed a swift comeback in the second half with goals scored by midfielder Marky Hernandez and forward Aidan Apodaca in the 68th and 69th minute, respectively.


Earthquakes goalkeeper Matt Bersano and midfielder Siad Haji were both featured in the Starting XI for Reno. Quakes Homegrown Player JT Marcinkowski took Bersano’s place between the posts in the second half.


Reno 1868 FC resume USL Championship action in a road match against OKC Energy FC on Wednesday, July 17 at Taft Stadium. Reno, unbeaten in three-straight league matches, sit in third in the Western Conference with a record of 9-4-5. Wednesday’s match is set for 6 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
