March 29, 2001 – Acquired Landon Donovan as an MLS Allocated Player

The Earthquakes acquired forward Landon Donovan as an MLS Allocated Player on March 29, 2001. The Redlands, Calif. native helped lead the Quakes to their two MLS Cups championships in 2001 and 2003. During his four seasons with the Quakes, Donovan was selected to the MLS All-Star team each year. Donovan ranks third all-time in goals scored for the Earthquakes with 32 in 87 appearances and is tied for eighth all-time in assists recorded for the club with 29. He is also the league’s all-time leading scorer with 145 goals.


March 30, 2010 – Signed goalkeeper Jon Busch

The Earthquakes signed goalkeeper Jon Busch. Busch made 150 appearances for the Quakes between 2010 and 2014, recording 36 shutouts and 509 saves during his five seasons with the club. The New York native earned the Quakes’ Defensive Player of the Year Award four times during his time with San Jose.
