The San Jose Earthquakes earned a 1-1 road draw against the Portland Timbers at Providence Park on Wednesday, before defeating LAFC 2-1 at PayPal Park on Sunday. The victory sees the Earthquakes extend their unbeaten streak to seven (2-0-5), the longest active streak in Major League Soccer.

Midfielder Cristian Espinoza and defender Nathan were named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 18. Espinoza assisted each of San Jose’s two goals on Sunday, while Nathan scored the opening goal in the same match.

Earlier in the week, the Earthquakes made a pair of roster moves. The club acquired forward Jeremy Ebobisse in a trade with the Portland Timbers on Thursday and acquired $200k of General Allocation Money (GAM) plus incentives from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for defender Florian Jungwirth on Friday.

The Quakes will now prepare to host Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Friday, August 13, presented by CEFCU. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Bay Area, KNBR 1050 and KZSF 1370.

Extending the Streak

The Quakes extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches (2-0-5). It marks the club’s first unbeaten stretch of 7+ matches in a single season since the final seven matches of 2013 (5-0-2). The streak also becomes the longest active streak in MLS.

New goal leader

Midfielder Chofis scored his fifth goal of the season and the fifth of his MLS career, making him the team’s goal leader. He has now scored in each of the last two matches. Sunday’s goal also marked the first game-winning goal of his MLS career.

Pair of Assists

Midfielder Cristian Espinoza tallied assists on Nathan and Chofis’ goals, marking his fifth and sixth assists of the season and 27th and 28th of his MLS career. It marks the first time an Earthquakes player tallied two or more assists in a single match since May 1, 2021 (Cade Cowell; two vs. D.C. United). Espinoza has now tallied six assists, including two game-winning assists, in six regular season appearances vs. LAFC.

Dangerous Defender

Defender Nathan scored his second goal of the season and the second of his MLS career. He has now scored two goals in his first seven appearances with the Quakes.

100 Appearances

Midfielder Jackson Yueill made his 100th MLS appearance, starting and playing 90 minutes.

Friday’s match will mark the 27th regular season matchup between both clubs, with San Jose holding an 8-9-9 overall record against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Earthquakes announce time change for road match vs. Austin FC

The San Jose Earthquakes announced on Monday that the club’s road match vs. Austin FC at Q2 Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 18, originally scheduled for 6:00 p.m. PT, has moved to 5:00 p.m. PT. The match will be broadcast on NBC Sports Bay Area Plus, KNBR 1050 and KZSF 1370.

Earthquakes acquire forward Jeremy Ebobisse in trade with Portland Timbers

The San Jose Earthquakes announced last Thursday that the club has acquired forward Jeremy Ebobisse (ee-BO-bis-see) from the Portland Timbers in exchange for $667k of General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2022 and $500k of GAM in 2023. Portland could receive an additional $50k of 2023 GAM for performance-based incentives. Portland will retain a portion of the player’s 2021 salary budget charge. Earthquakes Forward Cade Cowell Selected to MLS All-Star Team

San Jose Earthquakes forward Cade Cowell is among 28 players selected to the 2021 Major League Soccer All-Star Team. Cowell, 17, is the youngest player named an All-Star and is one of two players chosen directly by MLS Commissioner Don Garber, along with the New England Revolution’s Tajon Buchanan. Cowell was the first player in MLS to tally four goals and four assists this season, earning two Team of the Week selections and one Player of the Week honor in the process. Earthquakes trade Florian Jungwirth to Vancouver Whitecaps FC

The San Jose Earthquakes announced last Friday that the club has acquired $200k of 2021 General Allocation Money (GAM) from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for defender Florian Jungwirth. The Quakes would receive an additional $100k of 2022 GAM should performance-based incentives be reached. Jungwirth, 32, tallied five goals and 10 assists in 124 appearances (118 starts) since joining the Quakes ahead of the 2017 season.

Casey Walls made his third and fourth appearance for Austin Bold FC as a substitute in both the 2-1 victory over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last Wednesday and the 3-0 loss against El Paso Locomotive FC last Saturday. Gilbert Fuentes did not feature in the matches. Austin now sits in fifth (6-5-5, 23 pts.) in the USL Championship Mountain Division.

Thomas Williamson at Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC

Thomas Williamson did not appear in the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC’s 3-2 victory over Charleston Battery SC last Friday. Pittsburgh maintains their hold on first place (10-4-3, 33 pts.) in the USL Championship Atlantic Division.

Eric Calvillo at Orange County SC

Eric Calvillo made his 10th start for Orange County SC in the 3-2 loss against the LA Galaxy II. Orange County SC remain in second (7-6-4, 25 pts.) in the USL Championship Pacific Division.
