If not for an own goal, the Quakes went toe-to-toe with Western Conference rival Colorado Rapids. Unfortunately for San Jose, battle scars don't translate to points and the Rapids took three away from Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Still, the Quakes showed some resiliency while playing with a short bench and a new-look back four. The match also marked the unveiling of a new formation, a 4-1-4-1 .
