Quakes fans were buzzing after the announcement that former FC Barcelona and Hull City midfielder Geovanni agreed to terms with San Jose on Monday. Now it's time to answer the million-dollar question: Are the Quakes MLS Cup contenders?

Geovanni's addition is clearly a boost offensively. Quakes head coach Frank Yallop was excited about the possibility of slotting the Brazilian playmaker into San Jose's lineup. A dynamic attacker who likes the ball at his feet, Geovanni could be just the player San Jose has been searching for.

"He's just a different player. We've never really had a skillful, inventive guy like him around the goal," said Quakes head coach Frank Yallop. "He's individual, but he can also play with his teammates and we're excited to have that type of player."

Geovanni hasn't been ruled out of Saturday's match against the Los Angeles Galaxy, but his eligibility depends on receipt of his ITC. With San Jose's bench shrinking seemingly by the day due to injuries, the 30-year-old Brazilian would be a welcome addition as the Quakes continue to make a push for the playoffs.

San Jose enters the California Clásico tied with Toronto FC for the eighth and final playoff spot at 26 points. The Quakes haven't qualified for post-season play since returning to MLS in 2008 - is this the year the black and blue returns? Vote now!
