Former Clash player tabbed for Chelsea assistant job

Former San Jose Clash player Michael Emenalo was named assistant coach for Chelsea FC of the English Premier League, the club announced on Thursday.


Emenalo and current San Jose Earthquakes General Manager John Doyle were the first two players signed in franchise history. The duo was announced at a press conference on December 7, 1995.

Emenalo played in 56 games for the Clash between 1996 and 1997, scoring one goal and notching four assists. After leaving San Jose, the Nigerian defender went on to play for Lleida in Spain and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel before signing on with Chelsea as a scout in 2007.


Chelsea are first in the EPL standings after 13 games with 28 points. Quakes club partner Tottenham Hotspur are seventh with 19 points.
