Earthquakes to Host 2011 Corporate Cup
The 2011 Corporate Cup hosted by the San Jose Earthquakes will kick off on Saturday, July 30 at 8:30 a.m. PT at the Nutrilite Training Facility. The 5v5 event will feature three divisions: Corporate Men’s, Co-Ed and Men’s Open. The teams competing include: Visa, Zynga, Sony PlayStation, Maxim Intergrated Products, NetApp, Solar Junction, Degenkolb Engineers, Playdom, PRTM, McKinsey & Co., Vocera, TeleNav, Cosmo Catering, Futsal Kingz, UK International, UVMG, Menlo Park AYSO, defending Open Division champions the Almaden Brit, Fighttheflop.com, the Cupertino Brit and Gordon Biersch. Earthquakes Host Military Night vs. D.C. United on Saturday, July 30
The San Jose Earthquakes will honor the U.S. Armed Forces along with BAE Systems and Operation Care and Comfort on Saturday prior to kickoff against D.C. United. Active service members and veterans from all five branches of the military will be in attendance. Among the bases who will be represented are: Camp Parks, Fort Hunter Liggett and the Alameda Coast Guard Base. Participating military members will receive a commemorative scarf. In addition, Earthquakes partner BAE Systems will have an MRAP vehicle on site for fans to check out before kickoff. Operation Care and Comfort will also set up donation stations at Gates A and B.


Earthquakes to Host Xfinity Youth Soccer Clinic Event in Union City on Wednesday
The San Jose Earthquakes will host their fourth Xfinity Youth Soccer Clinic event of the summer on Wednesday at Shorty Garcia Park in Union City from 6 to 8 p.m. PT. Space is still available for kids to register. Participation is free with each child receiving a soccer ball, a ticket to an Earthquakes home game and the opportunity to interact with players from San Jose. Convey, Wondolowski in New York for AT&T MLS All-Star Game
San Jose Earthquakes stars Chris Wondolowski and Bobby Convey are in New York for the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star Game. The duo will suit up for MLS on Wednesday, July 27 at Red Bull Arena against Manchester United. The match kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT on ESPN2, Galavision and TSN. Convey was named to his second consecutive MLS All-Star team while Wondolowski was tabbed for the first time.


Earthquakes to Host AT&T MLS All-Star Game Viewing Party at Norm’s Place in Danville
The San Jose Earthquakes will host a viewing part for the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 27 at Norm’s Place in Danville, Calif. Danville is the hometown of San Jose’s leading goal scorer and All-Star participant Chris Wondolowski. The match kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT on ESPN2, Galavision and TSN. The Shakers Squad will be on hand to distribute free swag while also raffling off a Chris Wondolowski replica jersey t-shirt.


San Jose Offers Fans the Chance to Be Krazy George for a Day
San Jose Earthquakes fans that think they have what it takes to be Krazy George will get their chance. Last week the club announced the launch of its Krazy George Contest, a three-tiered competition that will result in one person winning the opportunity to perform alongside the iconic entertainer when San Jose hosts Sporting Kansas City on Oct. 1. Sign ups are now open for the first phase of the contest. Fans can nominate themselves at www.sjearthquakes.com/krazygeorge. A pool of as many as 10 semifinalists will then be selected to perform a routine before a panel of three judges – Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop, club ambassador Kelly Gray and the original Krazy George – on Friday, Aug. 5. From that group of 10, five finalists will be selected based on the creativity of their presentation, engagement of the judges and team pride. In order to decide a winner, fans will vote amongst the finalists’ performances using an online poll at www.sjearthquakes.com. The Earthquakes will post a video of each finalist’s performance in addition to the judge’s comments on the club’s official YouTube channel that will be available on the polling page for fans to watch and determine which contestant deserves to be the next Krazy George.


Odwalla Bottle $5 Ticket Discount
The San Jose Earthquakes and Odwalla are teaming up to help fans save. This weekend and on Aug. 13, fans can redeem any Odwalla bottle at the Earthquakes Box Office on game day in exchange for a $5 discount on a match ticket.


Unbeaten in Last Seven at Home
The Earthquakes are unbeaten in their last seven MLS regular season games at home. The club is 3-0-4 and has outscored opponents 11-5 during the streak. San Jose’s last loss at home was a 2-1 result against Chivas USA on April 23.


Reserve League Continues
The Earthquakes will continue Reserve League play at Chivas USA on Tuesday, July 26. San Jose’s reserve squad is 3-2-0 through the first half of its season.


Attakora Debuts for San Jose
Midfielder Nana Attakora made his debut for the Earthquakes on Saturday against Real Salt Lake. The fifth-year player started and played 54 minutes in his first appearance. He was traded to San Jose along with Jacob Peterson and Alan Gordon from Toronto FC in exchange for Ryan Johnson, allocation money and an international player slot.


Rafael Baca Makes First MLS Start
Rookie midfielder Rafael Baca made his first MLS start for the Quakes against Real Salt Lake on July 23 at Rio Tinto Stadium. The former LMU star saw 90 minutes as a left midfielder in a 4-0 loss. He has played in four games this season for San Jose.


Earthquakes Recall Morrow From Loan
Second-year defender Justin Morrow returned from a brief loan stint with FC Tampa Bay on Monday. He will make the trip to Los Angeles with San Jose’s reserve squad to take on Chivas USA. Morrow appeared in three matches during his time with FC Tampa Bay, a 1-0 win against English Premier League side Bolton, a 2-1 win against FC Edmonton and a 2-1 loss against the Atlanta Silverbacks.


Luzunaris Sees Time for Orlando City
Matt Luzunaris started and played 79 minutes for Orlando City in a 1-0 win against English Premier League side Newcastle United. San Jose’s striker went on loan with the USL Pro Division squad prior to their July 16 match against Rochester. He has scored two goals in two weeks, one against Rochester and another against Bolton.


Marathon July Comes to an End
Saturday’s match against D.C. United will be the Earthquakes’ eighth and final match of the month. During July the Quakes are 0-2-4 in MLS regular season matches and 1-2-4 overall, including a 2-1 win against English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.


Busch the Shot Stopper
Twenty-one games into the season, Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch is second in the league in saves with 80. Toronto FC’s Stefan Frei leads the pack with 85 saves in 23 matches. New England’s Matt Reis trails Busch by two saves with 78 in 18 matches.


San Jose’s Record in July
The Quakes are 21-32-17 all-time in July in MLS play.
