Shakers Squad volunteers for Habitat for Humanity

Shakers Squad - Habitat for Humanity

Members of the San Jose Earthquakes Shakers Squad packed up their working gloves and shovels and headed south to Morgan Hill on June 29th to contribute to Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley’s latest development.

The cozy six-home development has been under construction since July 2009 and is remarkably eco-friendly, equipped with solar panels and a rain censored irrigation system. The Shakers Squad, along with the South County Master Gardeners, took on landscaping duties with other volunteers, planting an assortment of greenery including pistachio trees, lilies, and bay trees.

Elaine and Steve have five children whom they home school; one of whom, the ever-so helpful and hospitable Alex, has Down Syndrome. One other homeowner, Ishmael, also known as “Smiley,” works for the City of Morgan Hill and feared having to move unreasonably far to be able to afford to own his family’s home.

Shakers Angenee, Mia, Jessica, and Haley flexed their green thumbs and their muscles to help transform the housing development into a neighborhood. The homes are now complete and are being dedicated on August 6.
