Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch raised over $4,000 for the Navy SEAL Foundation by auctioning his game-worn gear from the club’s match against the Chicago Fire on Sept. 10 at Buck Shaw Stadium. Busch honored all United States servicemen and women as well as victims of the 9-11 tragedy by wearing commemorative gloves and cleats during the match.
The gloves featured a Special Operations Patch, and the cleats had a message embroidered in recognition of the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2011. At the game on Sept. 10, fans participated in a silent auction to win the gear from the first half.
Winner Stephanie Hawk took home the game-worn gloves from the in-stadium auction for $500 and the cleats for $1,000. The second-half gear was then auctioned on eBay with Rob Hoehn winning the cleats for $200 and the gloves for $274. Ian Fette purchased the jersey from the match for $1,100.
In addition to the $3,074 raised through the auctions, the Earthquakes Community Fund donated $1,000 to the cause for a total of $4,074 for the Navy SEAL Foundation.
